Kyle's Review:
Don't let the picture above fool you. Yes, the Pillar
and Post was once a Cannery, hence the name. The exterior is a renovated
late 1800's commercial building. The dining room has a warm charm to it
that is enhanced by the original structural pillars. Beyond the front desk
is a nice atrium.
The Pillar and Post is one of the Vintage Inns.
Since we were on a meal plan from the Prince of Wales, we were able to
include the Cannery at the Post and Pillar in our dining itinerary. The
Post and Pillar is Hotel and Restaurant. It is about 4 blocks from the
center of town. You can easily find it by looking for their distinctive
smokestack rising above the neighborhood.
The building originally housed one of the canneries
in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The atmosphere in the dining room is defined by
the high ceilings and post and beam construction of the building. The
atmosphere is cozy and intimate.
The service was friendly and efficient. As with most
of our dining experiences at Niagara-on-the-Lake the experience was
leisurely. I had their crab cakes for an appetizer and their Maple Pecan
Chicken for a main course. Everything was delicious. (You have to try at
least a couple of things made with maple syrup when in Canada). I finished
with their Double Fudge Chocolate Cake for dessert.
They have a children’s menu with the usual kid’s
fare.
